Week 13: Apocalypto Film Review

Apocalypto is an action and adventurous film directed by Mel Gibson that released on 2006. This film is about Mesoamerican tribesman and the journey of the tribe’s life. They must escape the human sacrifice and rescue their family after the capture and destruction of their village by the warriors. Warriors are the people that have no mercy to other people and have attacks many tribes in order to conquer the place and the group of warriors that manage to get many tribes will be the strongest warriors among The story begin when the warriors led by Zero Wolf attack and subdue the Jaguar Paw’s village and all his tribes. Most of the villagers are dead due to the attacks by the warrior. Jaguar Paw manages to save his pregnant wife (Seven) and Turtles Run his only son. He put his wife and son in a deep hole and they manage to survive until Jaguar Paw came to save their life after Jaguar Paw escape from the warriors. Even though he manages to save his wife and son, deep down inside his heart, he is very sad to see his father died in front of his eyes killed by the warriors. The warriors are cruel and they have killed so many people including Jaguar Paw’s tribes. 

The warriors have caught jaguar Paws and his tribesmen. The warriors wants all the tribes that they manage to caught to be the sacrifice for the Maya civilization’s ceremony that the killing processed were held through the top of the pyramid. They slaughter the tribes and drink their blood. The Maya civilization has a bloodthirsty attitude that makes them craving for human blood. Through this film, we can see that the main character that is Jaguar Paw have a great and strong spirit to live and survive even though he have to face many obstacles. He had been tortured mentally and physically but still, he manages to kill all the warriors in his clever ways to trapped them.

 I adore and really like the character of Jaguar Paw because he is a good son, husband and a good leader of his tribes. He always remember his father’s advice that is no matter what happen, we must be brave and do not be afraid. He always trusts his instinct and brave men. After Jaguar Paw reunited with his family again, they want to forget about all the pain memories and they want to seek a new beginning. From my point of view, the story is really an adventurous film that is suitable for the adults to know about the history of Maya civilization. Apocalypto is an interesting film to watch and the people can gain good lesson from the movie. 

                                                                    

Week 9: Sanctum Film Review

Sanctum film is about a journey of a large number of groups that trying to explore Espiritu Esa’ala Cave, an underwater cave exploration site in Papua New Guinea. This film is based from the true story. The group members are Frank McGuire, Liz, J.D, Judes, Dex, old pros Luko, George and followed by Frank’s 17 years old son (Josh). Frank McGuire is in charge of the group and become the person that responsible towards what happening during the expedition. The other characters in the sanctum are Carl and his girlfriend (Victoria). Carl is the person that support and give money to the team members to do the expedition. The fight and the climax start when a tropical storm forces them to immediately out from the cave before all of them are drowning. The team members must struggle to escape from the unknown escape route to the sea. From the storyline when they want to save their life, the viewers can see who the characters are bad or good, for example the selfish one, the responsible character and so on. In a panic situation to save life, we can see that there are characters are selfish. I think this story give the moral values and the lesson to the viewers about the importance of team work.  

 From my point of view, I really dislike the character of Carl that can be categories as a selfish person. He only thinks how to save his life and his girlfriend’s life (Victoria) without thinking about the other group members. Carl and Victoria are the bad character in this film because they were the person that makes the journey to escape more difficult. Carl also left Frank and Josh, and go by his own way to save his life. It is very cruel. This story wants us to realize that the selfish attitude is not good. For example, Carl can survive, but when he escapes alone, he died because he does not have any experience like Frank. 

 The character that I like the most is Frank because he is very responsible leaders that really care about his team members. He always finds a way to save his members even though he risks his life. From the story, we can know how power is the love between father and son. At last Josh realize that his father really love him so much. Finally yet importantly, the story is a great film and suitable for all ages to see it and viewers must take good examples that have been shown in this movie.

Week 8 : Extraordinary Person That I Admire Most

PROFESSOR DR MUHAYA MOHAMAD 

Everybody have their own idol and the extraordinary people that they admire most. I also have my own idol that I really admire and I always dream to become like her. Parents are the person that becomes the idol of every child, however instead of parents; there will be somebody else that becomes the idol of the children. Parents will always be number one idol in our heart and life. In my life I have my own idol and the extraordinary people that I admire most. The person that captured my attention is Professor Dr Muhaya Mohamad.

Professor Dr Muhaya Mohamad was born in December 1 1958 at Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu. She is the eldest child from two siblings. She married to Dr Azmi Jamion and they have two children. Professor Dr. Muhaya Mohamad currently serves as Consultant Eye Surgeon and Director of PCMC Eye and Lasik Centre Prince Court Medical Centre, Professor of Ophthalmology of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and Adjunct Professor to International Islamic University of Malaysia. Currently, she is the Chairperson of Malaysian Medical Association Ophthalmological Society. Besides that, she does motivational speeches to UKM, PCMC staff and students, professionals.Prof Muhaya graduated from medical school in 1985, obtained a Fellowship in Uveitis at Moorfields Eye Hospital, United Kingdom in 1998, which culminated in a PhD from University of London in Ocular Immunology. She was the first Malaysian to sub-specialise in Uveitis and started the first Uveitis Service and immunosuppressive therapy in autoimmune eye diseases in the country.

            Why I admire her? I admire her deeply because she is a really hardworking student when she is a medic student. She always studies hard and manages to balance her study and also her marriage. Even though she’s married early when she was still studying, it does not affect her study and she can still manage to be the best student at her University. I want to be like her because she is a good child to her parents, a good student and also a good wife. Every human being is not perfect but she has the whole package which is beautiful inside, kind hearted person and very intelligent. The most important things that I admire her are she is a good Muslim. She never disobeys her responsibility to The Almighty God (ALLAH S.W.T). She succeeds in her life including her career as a doctor and also succeeds as a good example for all Muslim in the world.

            I always see her in television in her own show which is Mata ke Hati that be aired on Astro Prima, every Friday at 7.00pm. She is a good motivator and one of her advice that I will not forget is her principles “You are what you think”. The meaning is if a person think positively, it shows that he/she is a positive person and vice versa. Instead of being a doctor, she also can be a motivator and she always giving her excellent advice in tv2 shows in the morning. It shows that she is a really extraordinary person because she has lots of responsibility but still she can do the best. I really hope that one day I can meet her and say thanks for motivate me and the people around the world!!.

Week 3: Critical issues in education

          Many people especially parents are fear that sex education will be teach in schools. Do the students know what the meaning of sex education is? The education minister and government of Malaysia are debating about this matter whether sex education will be continuing or not. Sex education is the development to forming an attitude and beliefs about sex or in other word it can be define as the knowledge about how human being doing sex and what is the negative and positive affect having the intimate relationship. From my point of view, sex education is not important to be teaching in school because it is not helping to reduce the wedlock, HIV or other dangerous disease that cannot be cure by any medicines. We all know that government always try the best to overcome all sort of problem, but in this serious case that is to have a sex education class, I will not agree if sex education will be teach for school’s student.

What is the purpose to have sex education in student’s life? I do not get it. I think there is no purpose and benefit doing this ridiculous class. The social problem and crime will be increase because the students already know how to make love and of course, after they have the sex education lesson, they will do the practical later. Even former Prime Minister Tun Doctor Mahathir Mohamad has said, “Sex education was unnecessary because students are already getting Islamic and moral education. We keep hearing about newborn babies found in garbage cans, which is a sad matter," I totally agree with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, because there is no use to have sex education. The most important thing to be taught for student is the religion. If the students know about the religion rules, of course they will know what is right and what is wrong in life.

         There are many best way to make the students realize and open their eyes to see how dangerous sex is before getting married, rather than sex education. One of the beginning ways is from house, the parents should not be shame to talk with their children about the sex life, so that the children will know a little bit about this serious matter (free sex). The second way is the government has to do campaign such as “Prevention is better than cure, Avoid from free sex or No sex before marriage.”Finally yet importantly, this sex education is not suitable and the student does not need it. Sex education is not a subject or education, time and nature will teach everybody naturally.

WEEK 2: Do you think that Deborah Parry should be allowed to go back at work?

First, I feel so sympathy for Deborah Parry that has been convicted of murdering Yvonne Gilford in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Arabian’s police officer has tortured her badly because they want Deborah to confess about the murder that she did not do it. Everybody seems to be a bad person because people just know how to judge people without knowing the true whole story and without any investigation about this case. I really hate that people always accused other innocent people towards something that he or she did not do it.

Who are we to judge people without any strong evidence? We are not God and we must remember that all people make mistake! From my point of view, Deborah Parry has the right to continue working as nurse. For so long she had served and worked at the hospital for sixteen years, that is mean, she is really a hardworking woman and really interested in this field. How could people just simply throw her away from the things that she likes? Do not be so cruel.

We as a human being, we must have a good heart and please give Deborah Parry a chances to prove herself that she is not a murderer. I think that people surrounding her is jealous and are trying to sabotage her until she has been convicted murdering her own colleague. From the writer itself, she is a bias person because she only wrote about the negative side of Deborah Parry. I am very disappointed about this case. If I were in Deborah Parry’s shoes, of course that I will be so sad and hopeless to continue my work as a nurse. If we let Deborah Parry to go back at work, of course, she can clear her name and she had nothing to be ashamed off if she is not doing the murder. 

One of the things that I really hate is, when the Saudi Arabia’s police officer dare and would do anything towards Deborah such as hitting, slapping and they also rubbing Deborah’s private part until she tell the truth. Deborah is not stupid, even though she is being tortured, she still tough handling the situation. Finally yet importantly, Deborah Parry should be allowed to go back at work. She has the right to live as a normal human being.
